The winner of the Vendee Globe breaks the world record

François Gabart managed to break the world record by crossing the finishing line in 78 days, 2 hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds.

The VendeeGlobe race winner François Gabart managed to break the world record by crossing the finishing line on 27 January after 78 days, 2 hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds.

  This is a new record for singles around the world without assistance. The current record, set by Michel Desjoyeaux trails behind the new record by 6 days, 00 hours and 53 minutes.

 Armel Le Cléac'h arrived at the finishing line on 27 January. It tool him 18 hours, 35 minutes and 52 seconds (local time), which is 3 hours, 17 minutes and 12 seconds behind the winner François Gabart. It's also the closest the difference between first and second place in the history of the regatta.
