This is the story of a man who wants to sail around the world in a 3-meter boat

Sven Yrvind (73) is preparing for an adventure. He plans to sail around the world in a boat that is only 3-meters long ...

Sven Yrvind (73) has a one of a kind plan. He plans to sail around the world in a 3-meter boat which he intends to stock with 400 kg of food and vitamins and 100 kg of books. He expects that his trip will last for 600 days but the departure date is still open.

Although this old sea wolf might come across as a bit of a recluse, Sven Yrvind has lived a full and rich life. He has been married four times. The first article written about him was published after he refused to give a speech before the Swedish king and queen. He justified his refusal to do so by saying: "The organizers told me that it was a great honor, but that they won't pay."

When a few months afterwards a millionaire paid him to speak, a new problem arose, because Sven did not want to wear a black robe. This he explained by saying: "They asked me to wear the coat, but I refused. I have my principles."

Yrvind has always claimed that the open sea is the right place for him and that his life on the shore never suited him well. He suffered from dyslexia, which at that time noone really knew much about and he attended a school for children with special needs.

As a young man he deserted and went to jail, and was released only after he agreed to sign a document stating that he was a psychiatric patient. However, he discovered a love for math when he started reading books on boat building which were full of mathematics.

After that, he bought some books and eventually became good at it. Although he never graduated from high school, he worked as a professor of mathematics at a psychiatric institution for children. However, his teaching career did not last long because he was always drawn by his love of sailing.

He began to wander around the world, and the first thing he did was to circumnavigate the archipelago near the west coast of Sweden.

"After some time you start to notice things you have not even thought about. Things start to get a new meaning on water," he said after 45 days at sea. While many say that he is a loner, Yrvind has been married four times. But none of his marriages lasted long.

"I have specific ideas about how I want to live. At the beginning everything works ok, but sooner or later they all begin to talk about children. In my case it would not work. I'd have to get a bigger boat ..."
