The legendary sailing ship "Jadran", one of the most beautiful training ships in the world, is marking a 80-year anniversary. In May a complete overhaul of the ship is in store and it will be carried out in the the shipyard Bijela in the Bay of Kotor.

During the overhaul complete reconstruction of marine plants, installation of  two extra machines as well as new central air-conditioning units will ensue, and the ship will be equipped with new means of communication according to the SOLAS Convention, said the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro. The ship will also be fitted internally and its kitchen and toilet facilities will be completely renovated. The planned works are worth 1.5 million euro.

Although her home port is in Split, Croatia "Jadran" in early 90-ies lived (involuntarily) in the Yugoslav navy, now Montenegro. Therefore, all the previous repairs were performed by the military shipyard in Tivat, but the last overhaul had been done almost 30 years ago.

German engineers have estimated that the complete overhaul of  "Jadran" will cost as much as 15 million euro.

In March Croatian President Ivo Josipovic spoke about the possibility of arbitration concerning "Jadran".

The Croatian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that during his recent visit to Zagreb Montenegrin Foreign Minister Igor Luksic discussed the "Jadran," and that "both sides expressed the desire to resolve the issue". The Ministry of Justice announced a spring meeting with the Montenegrins.

The training ship "Jadran" will be a topic of discussion at the first meeting of the Commission for the resolution of property and other related issues between Croatia and Montenegro, which was established in September 2012, said Sergej Abramov, a spokesman for the Ministry of Justice.

BBC made a documentary about "Jadran" for it's show "Top Gear."
