Minister Ostojic: EU membership will further streamline the flow of people and capital in Croatia

Once Croatia enters the EU European tourists will come to Croatia without any formalities, said Croatian Minister of Tourism Veljko Ostojic in an interview for the Slovenian press agency STA on Tuesday

Once Croatia enters the EU European tourists will come to Croatia without any formalities, and they will perceive the Croatian tourist offer as local, said Croatian Minister of Tourism Veljko Ostojic in an interview for the Slovenian press agency STA on Tuesday, adding that Croatian membership in the EU will contribute to the strengthening of competitiveness of Croatian tourism.

Given that the majority of foreign tourists in Croatia come from EU countries, Croatia has long been a part of the European family, but with formal entry into the EU it will further streamline the flow of people and capital, the minister said.

Although EU accession will not have a significant impact on whether tourists from Slovenia and some other European countries opt for Croatian tourist destinations, the opportunities that EU membership will have on the competitiveness of Croatian tourism, and thus indirectly on growth of tourist transport are great, he said.

He pointed out that once Croatia becomes an EU member easier and faster entry of tourists from Slovenia to Croatia will be possible, and vice versa. There will be a checkpoint at the border, which will be monitored by Croatian and Slovenian police, he said.

The plan is to integrate all border crossings. This means that passengers in cars will have to stop just at one point and thus simultaneously pass Croatian and Slovenian police border control. The transition wil be faster and it willl take less time in the future, the minister said in an interview for the Slovene news agency STA.
